AUTUMN 2005 NEWSLETTER

Judge Jim McCormack explaining
book-stewarding to a new and
willing recruit!

Judging at the August show in full
swing, with Jim & Helen both ably
assisted by first-time book stewards

Our summer show included the Phil Francis Memorial Challenge for Veteran Cavies. Entries were a little on the disappointing side at 144, but not bad considering that we clashed with Fareham. This was an unfortunate situation, which arose simply because both clubs happened to change dates and ended up on the same day for this year - this should be rectified in 2006!

We had a very pleasant, relaxed day (consolation for a small entry!). We would like to offer our sincere thanks and congratulations to Julie Gallagher who made her debut appearance as our new 'catering manager' - a superb lunch and a fantastic job all day in the kitchen. Well done Julie! Thanks also to the home-baking experts who made some yummy contributions to the range of cakes and snacks on offer. Many thanks also to our judges on the day - Jim & Helen McCormick - thanks especially for being so welcoming and helpful to our two first-time book stewards, and Jayne Davey - thanks for stepping in at short notice to do the all important job of cuddling the pets (oh - and for judging them too!).

Our next show is on Saturday 15 October and will include (aside from the main show) an informal newcomers show for the local guinea-pig owners. This 'mini show' will be separate from the main one and should not interfere with it. We will try to encourage newcomers to mingle with experienced exhibitors in order for them to get a feel for the way things are done. We hope this will entice them to join up and come again! We will be offering health and welfare advice and information sheets, as well as running an informal judging procedure along the lines of a pets schedule. We hope this will give some insight into the world of cavy shows and entice a few new members (adult and juvenile) into the fancy. A good entry would be a great advert for the fancy so please come along.

Don't forget to keep updated by our website at www.worthingcavyclub.org.uk.

We look forward to seeing you at the Show.

Tim & Tracey Clarke & the Committee.

PS: A polite reminder to exhibitors: Please do not park in Bowness Avenue outside the church hall - this is a condition of the hall-hire. It is fine to use this to drop-off and pick up, but please then move your car as soon as possible to park either in the car park, or in the adjacent roads (taking care not to block driveways, etc).
